Student Representative

Joy Horkey RN, CCRN
Student Representative
Joy originally went to school for advertising and marketing, but after graduating and entering the workforce, realized it was not her true calling. She graduated with her nursing associate's degree in December 2017, took her boards in January and immediately began working as a bedside nurse in a medical ICU. In July 2019, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After working in the ICU for a little over a year, she obtained a CCRN certification. In the summer of 2021, after feeling burnt out as her unit converted into a COVID ICU, she sought another change. The first change was transitioning to the PACU. After helping with negotiations and shadowing in the education department, she shadowed two CNSs to further explore different nursing roles. After shadowing and learning more about the CNS role, she started her CNS journey at the University of Minnesota in 2023 and is excited to graduate and join the APRN profession!
